OSTEOPATHIC CONVENTION TRIP
May 6, 2008 (Crystal's Birthday)
As you saw on the previous posting, Angie and Cookie and I left home and have been having a great trip going north into Ohio and Pennsylvania (seeing clients, prospects and new friends along the way). The Pennsylvania Osteopathic convention was not only alot of fun (it's great seeing friends we've had for years), but also in picking up new clients and getting to meet some clients in person for the first time. Jeff Lindenbaum is a physician near Philadelphia who is following our recommendations and has given us a fantastic referral letter and he brought different people by our booth to introduce us so that we can help his friends.
One sad thing happened while I was in Valley Forge and Angie was in New York with her sister. One of our daughter-in-laws (Crystal) called and said that the cat we've had for 19 years (Smokie) wasn't looking too good, so she took her to the vet. The Vet said that she was in kidney failure (Smokie - not Crystal) and we had her put to sleep. For the past 2 years, she has been completely blind (we're still talking about Smokie and not Crystal) and she's lived a long long life. We'll miss her.
While in Philadelphia, not only did I get to have dinner with some of my favorite people (Bob Welch, Veronica, Joe and some of their staff), but driving my 26 foot long 8 1/2 foot wide dooly pickup thru that city is an experience. Thank you Bob for a great evening.
On another night, I met a new client (Matt Pinto, D.O.) at Union Trust Steakhouse in the middle of the city ( you should have seen the valet driver's eyes when I pulled up in the truck and I didn't even have my RV attached to it). We had a great dinner and up until the end of the meal, I thought I was the only person in downtown Philly wearing a western hat, but as we were leaving, I saw one other. There is hope for Philadelphia yet. Thank you Matt for a wonderful dinner and great conversation.
The next day, I met Angie and her sister and niece at the Crayola Crayon factory in Easton, PA and did a little shopping for our grandchildren before heading back to the RV.

We left Philadelphia (in alot of rain) and travelled down to Virginia and spent the night near Richmond. We were hoping to stop by and have lunch on that Sunday with Dr. Hong Nguyen, but she had things come up, so we missed on that opportunity. Perhaps when we come back to Virginia in the future, we can.
From there, we drove down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where we're parked now (about 80 yards from the beach). The AOA (American Osteopathic Association) is having a symposium here for physicians from all over the country on Thursday and Friday - so we're here to support them (and pick up clients from around the country)
Yesterday, about sundown, we walked about 1/2 mile one way and Cookie just had a fantastic time chasing the sea gulls and running along the edge of the water. That dog just loves running on the beach.
Cookie has to be the happiest dog in the world when she's running back and forth on the beach barking at the sea gulls who stay about 15 feet above her - taunting her. So far - they haven't fired any bombs at her that we know of. We'll be here till Sunday when we start heading to North Carolina or Tennessee. We're not sure yet exactly where we'll go because we have a couple of weeks till we need to be in Chatanooga for the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association convention where I'm speaking again.
From there - we head down to Texas for the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association convention before heading out towards California and Oregon in late June - early July. We're planning on stopping by Sedona, Arizona on that trip to see a new client.
The nice thing about our lifestyle is that we can stop in and see clients, friends and prospects as we're travelling in their area. If you're on our route - let us know at donself@donself.com
Happy Birthday Crystal. Below is a photo of both of our daughter-in-laws (Crystal is in the pink and Tiffany is in the ?mauve?) Like most men, I only know about 5 colors and I may be off on the color of Tiffany's dress. Last month was Tiffany's birthday and I didn't update the blog last month, so I'm wishing best wishes to both of them below.
So - until later - enjoy yourself.
